| Raised in a small rural Nebraska town, Kathy Zimmer grew up loving and making music in the company of a large musical family. She learned to play the guitar at an early age and began singing even earlier, as she performed for church services, rodeos, parades and county fairs.
Ever curious, Kathy's musical exploration eventually led her to study classical music, a quest for knowledge which culminated in a master's degree in voice from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
One foot in a simple, homegrown music tradition and one foot in the heady discipline of classical music, Kathy Zimmer now creates music she terms "cosmopolitan folk"--music that can be sophisticated yet sincere, smart but accessible. Country music, 60s girl groups, confessional singer/songwriters, choral part-writing and classical art song--all these influences are present in Kathy's music.
To help her achieve her musical vision in a live capacity, Kathy Zimmer performs with The Sugar Bowls, two lovely and talented backup singers (Kami Graves and Maura Jarach) and a percussionist (Chris Benelli) as well as a flautist (Lisa Bianco). She has released four EPs to critical acclaim, both in the United States and internationally. Her CDs can be found for sale in Rough Trade in London, Other Music in New York City (where she currently resides) and online at iTunes and CD Baby.
